Overview

Manage workflow and assist with daily supervision of processing staff during laboratory operational hours.  Also oversees the pre-analytical tasks associated with testing, assures the quality of the specimens, and ensures the work area is clean and stocked with supplies. 

Responsibilities

Manages workflow to ensure completion of all daily work in accessioning and processing to achieve daily goals.
Schedules sufficient number of processing personnel (i.e. Laboratory Assistants) to complete accessioning and pre-analytical specimen processing steps.
Accessions and verifies all problem sample information and coordinates with Client Support and Data Entry teams to ensure all problems are reconciled.
Works with Logistics Department to assure clear communication concerning sample arrivals throughout the day, seven days per week.
Collects throughput data and reviews with the Supervisor to develop metrics for accessioning/processing.
Coordinates with other members of Laboratory Operations Management team on special projects; completes tasks in timely manner.
Participates in Quality activities including, but not limited to writing non-conformances, CAPAs, responding to audit findings in the accessioning and processing areas.
Performs daily equipment QC/daily equipment monitoring.
Calibrates and verifies equipment for use on cell separation line.
Monitors large draw/Spotlight events to ensure adequate staffing for increase in specimen volume in the laboratory.

Educates visitors and guests on the accessioning and cell separation processes.
Assists in recruiting of Laboratory Assistants.
Oversees training of new Laboratory Assistants on specimen accessioning and processing, as well as laboratory support activities.
Assists in supervising and organizing individuals and work groups to continuously improve performance by creating an environment that ensures application of quality principles and techniques to achieve desired outcomes.

Identifies areas for growth and assists in creating strategies for process improvement.
Responsible for overseeing the preparation of plates and racks with conical centrifuge and Leucosep® tubes for use by technologists and technicians.
Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, laws and requirements of requisite agencies by employing appropriate systems/processes.
Oversees laboratory stocking and ensures that laboratory supplies are restocked. Ensures receipt and inspection of raw materials is performed correctly. Orders and restocks materials and equipment.
Fosters an environment of excellence, sensitivity and leadership.
Follows all company safety policies & other safety precautions within work area.

Regular attendance and timeliness is essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a biological, chemical, or physical science, or equivalent. Experience supervising a large group (10+ employees) is preferred.
Requires compliance with strict safety protocols regarding work with reagents, laboratory equipment, and biological specimens.
Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Problem solving ability - able to develop creative, practical solutions that meet business objectives.
Must be detail oriented, with ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
Ability to work mandatory overtime as needed to accommodate the varied daily specimen load.
Strong project management skills, ability to adopt and follow work plans.
Ability to navigate MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet, and learn to navigate a proprietary Laboratory Information System.
Strong organizational/time management skills; able to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
