The Sr. Manager, Strategic Marketing – Automation is responsible for leading the development and commercial implementation of customer automation solutions for commercial labs and hospital labs for our T-SPOT testing including the strategic and tactical marketing plan worldwide. This position is responsible for overall project management including commercial goal setting, product definition and commercialization including customization and financing options, hardware and software solutions including vendor partnerships, system integration solutions, and product lifecycle planning.  This person is a key member of the commercial management team and will work directly with all key functional groups to launch and lifecycle manage the automation strategy. 


  • Works closely with target customers to understand customer requirements. May conduct market research esp. outside the US to validate customer requirements gained from customer engagement.
  • Define the T-SPOT test automation solutions requirements worldwide allowing for unique regional differences including hardware, software, throughput and other factors.
  • Collaborate closely with Technical/Development and Strategic Marketing teams to ensure automation solutions concepts align with the T-SPOT test product roadmap including the development/commercialization of other new products//product line extensions including new reagent kits.
  • Develop financial modeling and implement pricing and financing solutions for customers including regionally appropriate options.
  • Establish worldwide regulatory pathway for automation solutions allowing for regional regulatory differences/constraints.
  • Lead commercial relationships with external vendors including instrument and reagent suppliers in order to ensure automation solutions components satisfy customer requirements including post-installation support.
  • Lead process of ensuring automation solutions meet system integration interface requirements.
  • Develop templated customer contracts and associated reagent rental agreements in collaboration with Legal, Finance, and other departments.
  • Develop positioning, messaging and marketing plan to support commercial launch and sales strategy for automation solutions.
  • Support Technical Services and Sales teams in development of support materials, launch strategy and key customer presentations.
  • Lead process for ensuring intellectual property aspects of automation solutions are identified and appropriately protected.


  • BS, BSc, BA (or equivalent), in engineering, medical technology or operations research; MBA highly desired.
  • 3-5 years’ technical/engineering experience in laboratory instruments is required. Specific experience in hardware, software, systems integration and external vendor/partner management is highly desired. Commercial experience a plus.
  • 5-7 years’ commercial and/or technical experience focused on highly complex life sciences/medical products, preferably with clinical laboratories
  • Highly effective at leading without authority to align the organization around a commercial plan for a highly technical and customizable automation solutions offering.
  • Strong project management skills required. Experience using MS Project preferred.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills and professional presentation skills.
  • Ability to capture input from field sales and customers and convert it into commercially viable products/solutions, programs, and selling tools.
  • Ability to translate highly-technical and complex instruments/configurations, issues and concepts into simple and meaningful terms for sales representatives and customers.
  • Ability to travel up 35% of time, including international.
