    The Director of Laboratory Operations is accountable for planning, directing and coordinating the laboratory management team to ensure all testing activities comply with internal quality systems and are in full compliance with all regulatory requirements.  This position provides leadership and assumes responsibility and accountability for the provision of patient care and organizes, directs and controls all clinical and administrative activities. A continuous improvement mentality will be critical to maximize the quality of our service and its utility to our customers, to improve efficiency and reduce costs.  This position is subject to organization policies and goals, and must establish plans and recommend policies and priorities.


    • Recruit, retain and develop strong performers to fully staff and work effectively in laboratory operations.
    • Develop and implement equitable criteria and processes that meet company standards for selection, evaluation, promotion, performance management, and termination of Operations staff
    • Lead the Tick-Borne Diagnostics Clinical Lab operations, including:
      • Accurate accessioning of all samples and provision of accurate and timely results to customers
      • Daily performance of assays to the standards of our SOPs
      • Training and development of staff
      • Maintaining “up time” of all equipment
      • Establishment of new assays
      • Process change to improve the quality, throughput or costs of performing assays
    • Provide and lead technical support and expertise in one more of these technology platforms: Western Blot, ELISA, Antibody Capture, IFA, and RT-PCR.
    • Develop and apply an understanding of Tick-Borne Disease diagnostics to further strengthen our capabilities through assay improvement, technology transfer, and staff training and education.
    • Serve as a positive role model and set the professional tone for the Department's reputation and performance. Lead by example to create and foster a culture consistent with the company values
    • Maintain a constructive and collaborative working relationship with other departments of the company, fostering a culture of transparency. For example,
      • Collaborate with Commercial to support our customers
      • Partner with Finance to ensure we measure and forecast our financial performance accurately
      • Actively work with Quality to support our service quality goals
      • Coordinate with Legal to ensure compliance with all of our legal and regulatory requirements
    • Lead individuals and work groups to continuously improve performance by creating an environment that ensures application of quality principles and techniques to achieve desired outcomes
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, laws and requirements of requisite agencies by employing appropriate systems/processes.
    • Provide direction to all services that support or interface with customers to ensure responsiveness to customer complaints and Commercial feedback
    • Implement continuous improvement projects to attain world class support operations
    • Achieve financial outcomes and operational goals
    • Establish the Company as an employer of choice to increase the breadth and quality of the candidates for positions in Operations. Includes working with local government agencies, colleges and other community outreach
    • Follows all company safety policies & other safety precautions within work area
    • Regular attendance and timeliness is essential


    • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree or PhD preferred
    • A strong knowledge of laboratory operations, supported by a proven record of accomplishment of career growth in leadership positions of increasing responsibility
    • A background in serological or molecular techniques is required. More specifically, experience with Western Blot, ELISA, Antibody Capture, or IFA are highly desired.
    • Understanding of applicable regulations including CAP, CLIA, and NYS guidelines.
    • An assertive and collaborative leadership style that can recruit, retain and motivate an exceptional team to support laboratory and development operations
    • Requires the ability to effectively manage a large group of employees within assigned department and to address basic employee issues and well as those of a more serious nature including all corrective actions/performance improvement plans and terminations of employment with Human Resources
    • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high degree of personal & professional initiative
    • Ability to work in global, high volume operation
    • Ability to create cross-functional teams driven by project/business needs; ability to lead teams and secure outcomes without direct line authority
    • Ability to persuade and negotiate with peer level managers on issues and programs. Effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair workable solutions
    • Strong organizational/time management skills; able to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously
    • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
    • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
