  • Overview

    Oxford Immunotec is seeking a highly motivated and independent candidate to join our Lab Operations team and provide leadership to the Tick-Borne Diagnostic Laboratory’s Reporting and Small Test teams. A successful candidate will manage teams responsible for the reporting of Tick Borne patient results, as well as diagnostic tests performed using IFA and ELISA techniques. Additional opportunities include implementing laboratory policies, procedures, and services as well as lead or participate in laboratory initiatives related to continuous process improvement, such as Lean Six Sigma, and the development of metrics and KPIs.


    • Provide direct supervision for a small team of laboratory professionals, including hiring, performance reviews, and employee coaching and development.
    • Demonstrate leadership through effective communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Use sound judgment when making independent decisions or in consultation with management.
    • Leverage knowledge and experience in patient results analysis and/or serological technologies to perform as a subject matter expert on Reporting and Serology testing.
    • Actively participates in initiatives related to process improvement (Lean Six Sigma), LIS and LIMS implementations, and process validations.
    • Develop and maintain schedules to ensure availability of laboratory personnel (technologists and technicians) to complete daily tasks and forecasted laboratory test volume.
    • Manage the overtime and summer weekend schedules as determined by highly variable specimen volumes.
    • Lead the team to adhere to Quality Management System and ensures all policies and standard operating procedures are strictly followed.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, laws and requirements of requisite agencies by employing appropriate systems/processes.  Report all non-compliances to Lab Manager or Lab Director.
    • Define when CAPAs and Exception Reports are necessary and write and edit the reports.
    • Maintain a frequent presence in the laboratory in order to monitor and adjust daily workflows to ensure efficient operations.
    • Provide back up support by performing hands-on laboratory testing and reporting as needed.
    • Maintain daily inventory levels and communicates needs to Inventory Control staff.
    • Ensure that all lab staff is current with required training, competency assessments and continuing education.
    • Complete projects as assigned within designated timeframe.


    • Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences discipline, and 7 years of clinical laboratory experience; or Master’s degree in life sciences discipline, and 4 years of clinical laboratory experience.
    • Two or more years of direct supervisory experience, including hiring and performance management, is strongly preferred.
    • Strong working knowledge of patient results analysis and serological laboratory techniques are strongly preferred.
    • Ability to learn complex scientific laboratory assays, train others and hold them accountable for performance to standard operating procedures for that assay
    • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high degree of personal & professional initiative
    • Ability to develop creative, practical solutions that meet business objectives and solve problems
    • Effectively deals with conflicting views or issues and mediates fair workable solutions
    • Strong skills in organization/time management; able to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Willingness and ability to work occasional Saturdays in peak summer months, and a 9:30am-5:30pm shift throughout the year.
