Overview

Oxford Immunotec, LTD is a global organization, headquartered in Oxford, United Kingdom, that specializes in T-SPOT technology. Our IGRA (interferon gamma release assay) products use ELISpot methods to measure antigen-specific T cells for tuberculosis and SARS-Co-V-2 (T-SPOT®.TB and T-SPOT®.COVID respectively). We also offer products (T-Cell Xtend™ and T-Cell Select™) to aid in the isolation of PBMCs (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) from whole blood.

In addition to the kits and reagents that Oxford Immunotec provides, we work closely with various third party equipment vendors to assist our customers with automation solutions. Some examples of the equipment can include and not limited to liquid handlers, flow cytometers, plate washers and spot count imagers.

As Oxford Immunotec (OI) continues to grow and develop new products that require third party vendor automation, we are looking for an energetic and resourceful Senior Automation Field Specialist with proactive attitude to find solutions to complex issues to ensure a successful implementation and training of our customers. The Senior Automation Field Specialist (AFS) is a key part of the Oxford Immunotec’s (OI) commercial team (Sales and Marketing) under the direction of Sr. Manager of Technical Services to execute automation implementation for customers, such as installation of automation solutions, operator training, post-close customer support and troubleshooting. The AFS is a remote position based out of Boston for North America (US and Canada) that require frequent travel (up to 75%).

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implement third party automation equipment to work optimally with OI products for our customers. Such activities will include, but not limited to:
    • Conduct installation/servicing of hardware, software and LIS integration on detection instruments and high throughput liquid handlers
    • Support customers with optimization of instruments, which can include updating software application on methods and scripts
    • Perform training on OI assays with the associated third party equipment (flow cytometer, spot imager, plate washers).
    • Provide on-site support during validation and go-live phase
  • Collaborate with Product Solutions Specialist, Automation to plan and execute customer site surveys, automation workflow optimization and addressing system issues.
  • Support Sr. Mgr, Technical Services in the optimization and execution of automation projects, timelines and risks.
  • Deliver presentations or lead technical meetings during the implementation phase to educate customers on the operational aspects of implementing OI’s assays and ancillary equipment.
  • Maintain the highest degree of knowledge on all OI and competitive products and associated third party equipment through training and self-education.
  • Create, edit and maintain training documents, equipment implementation guides, SOPs, R&D support materials, operator’s manuals and technical bulletins on new and existing products.
  • Perform on-site or remote troubleshooting according to OI Quality procedures (ETQ/Salesforce.com) to resolve and document customer inquiry/complaints in timely manner.
  • Maintain weekly administrative duties, such as customer activities in Salesforce and Excel/PowerPoint dashboards, travel expenses on Concur and Quality requirements on ETQ.

Cross-functional Activities

  • Support marketing by assisting and giving input on marketing collateral materials as well as creating and delivering training materials for regional/national sales meetings (role plays, PowerPoint presentations, etc.)
  • Work closely with Sales and Marketing to build and maintain Oxford’s business across multiple products and operational solutions.
  • Occasionally assist cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Legal, etc.) on development of upstream products.

 

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience working in a clinical or diagnostics industry. Knowledge in microbiology laboratory process and techniques in infectious disease, immunology, microbiology or similar fields are preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in installation/servicing (equipment hardware/software/LIS integration), implementation, training and troubleshooting on laboratory automation, automated liquid handlers or detection instruments, such as liquid handler, flow cytometry and spot imagers.
  • 1+ year of experience in technical and/or commercial writing. Must have written, assisted or reviewed user or training guides for a product/equipment as well as SOPs.
  • BS in Life Sciences or related field.
  • Experience with software installation, application in programming/writing of methods/scripts, operation, training and troubleshooting of high throughput equipment or liquid handlers.
  • Experience in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related military experience is preferred.
  • Experience with lean process and continuous improvement skills, such as Lean/Six Sigma is preferred.
  • Experience with multiple diagnostic test methods is also preferred. This may include ELISPOT, ELISA, Antibody Capture EIA or Western Blot.
  • Excellent customer facing and interpersonal skills and proactive stress resistant personality with proven success managing and organizing time effectively to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in training in “Train-the-Trainer” methods, instructional design/development and adult educational methods desirable.
  • Analytical approach to development of customer solutions and value proposition.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), experience with CRM software (preferably Salesforce.com) and Quality Management software (ETQ, ERP) preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability to travel up to 75% within the US and Canada. Occasional international travel may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a passport.
